Art Education Philosphy by Mrs. Teddy Richardson
As the elementary and middle school art teacher, my goal is to expose the students to a wide variety of mediums, styles, and subject matter. Students are trained in traditional techniques as well as given freedom to discover their own style and creativity.
I believe creating art is a skill that can be learned. It is craft that is esteemed by God, as in Exodus Chapters 35 and 36, where God called upon the artisans to decorate the Tabernacle. I like to weave God’s Word into the lesson plan (where applicable) and into other teachable moments, As an art teacher, I aim to set in motion, for the student , a fresh confidence in their skills for creating art, an increased awareness of the beauty of God’s creation, an appreciation for the accomplishment of others, and a desire to do their best.
All of this in accordance with Philippians 4:8, “Finally my brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
